There are little published data that describe the many barriers faced by prescribers in high-burden healthcare settings in enacting antimicrobial stewardship practices. There are many reasons antibiotics are overused globally, and without better understanding the nuances to understand what drives antibiotic prescribing in each healthcare setting, reducing the overuse of antibiotics via published protocols and algorithms alone will be ineffective. Funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council, this project uses focus groups and in-depth interviews to explore the prescribing practices and attitudes towards antimicrobial stewardship among health care workers and policymakers in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This will contribute important qualitative
